Abstract

Curriculum is central to any education system, and it is impossible to determine it unless its objectives are defined. As Muslims, we have a responsibility to focus on setting curriculum objectives in designing the syllabus of the education system of a Muslim state. One way to assess and determine the objectives of the syllabus in the light of Islamic teachings is to review them in different periods of Islamic history, and to determine the objectives of the syllabus in the light of them in the present. In this article, the author has highlighted the objectives of the syllabus for the present era in the light of the discussion on the objectives of the Islamic education system from the time of the Prophet to the Abbasid period.
