Abstract

The Valley of Peace (Wadi-ul-Salam) located in the city of Najaf Ashraf (Iraq), is one of the oldest cemeteries in the world. In the light of many historical evidences, the graves of Hazrat Adam, Hazrat Noah, Hazrat Hud, Hazrat Saleh and Hazrat Ali (as) exist here. According to some traditions, the blessed head of Imam Hussain bin Ali (as) was also buried here. But the question is whether the burial of the Prophets and the Ahl al-Bayt (as) in this place is historically proven? Whether the virtue and importance given to Wadi-ul-Salam is proven by the Quranic verses and traditions? This article provides answers to these questions. Author has tried to know the reality of Wadi-ul-Salam in the light of Quranic verses, historical evidences and traditions. According to him the terminology of Wadi-ul-Salam refers to the holy city of Najaf Ashraf. In the light of many traditions, the spiritual status of Wadi-ul-Salam is declared as a peace place for residences of virtuous believers soles after their death.
